As a public
service, McFadden Associates
maintains free DNSBL SPAM blacklists. Any servers sending SPAM through
our mail filters will be automatically added for a period of thirty
days or until removal is requested via this website. For
enterprise mail filtering solutions, click here.
How
does it work?
McFadden Associates
professionally manages a number of high-volume Internet mail servers.
These servers run software packages including MailScanner and
SpamAssassin to scan all mail passing through these servers. Based
on a number of algorithms, a "score" is assigned to
each e-mail. Whenever a "high sscoring" SPAM is received--mail
that is junk beyond reasonable doubt--it is filtered and its details
recorded in this database. (For more information on MailScanner
and SpamAssassin, see
their respective websites.)
The publication
of this database is automated using a software package called
Spamikaze. (For more
information, see its website.)
Removal is
automatically granted via this site in case a server is accidentally
listed or subsequently corrects SPAM problems.
Who
can use the blacklist?
The blacklist
is available free of charge for use by any server that wishes.
However, usage acknowledges acceptance of the following provisions:

How
do I use the blacklist?
We currently
maintain two databases: bl.csma.biz and sbl.csma.biz.
The first database contains only aggressive hosts that have spammed
repeatedly during a short timeframe. The second database is a
bit more aggressive, recording all hosts that have generated spam
within a 45-day period.
Our recommendation
is that the sbl.csma.biz list not be used for real-time
DNSBL refusals because there is still a chance that messages could
be legitimate. (See the SpamAssassin rules
section for help here.)

Sendmail
Configuration
With sendmail,
add the following entries to your sendmail.mc:
FEATURE(`blacklist_recipients')dnl
FEATURE(`dnsbl', `bl.csma.biz', `*** SPAM Blocked from $&{client_addr}
- See http://bl.csma.biz/ .')dnl
NOTE:
Please list the "client_addr" variable in your response.
This will assist legitimate users from being de-listed and reduce
the number of vague support queries we must deal with.
Rebuild your
sendmail.cf file:
m4 sendmail.mc
> pathto/sendmail.cf
Restart sendmail.
That's it!
MS
Exchange RBL Configuration
Open Exchange
System Manager.
Open 'Global
Settings / Message Delivery - Properties' then the 'Connection
Filtering' tab.
Choose 'Add...'
to add a new blocklist service. Configure as follows:
Display
Name: bl.csma.biz
DNS Suffix of provider: bl.csma.biz
Custom Error Message:
*** SPAM Blocked from %0 - For information: http://bl.csma.biz/
- For removal: http://bl.csma.biz/cgi-bin/listing.cgi?ip=%0
Here's a great
resource from MSExchange.org.
SpamAssassin
Rules
If you want
to do the RBL check as part of SpamAssassin, this will allow Sendmail
to receive the message, but will use this RBL as a means of identifying
it as SPAM. We recommend this for our more aggressive database,
sbl.csma.biz.
This is a
good option if you're paranoid about using Sendmail's DNSBL to
refuse connections outright.
Click
here to download csma.cf.
Place the
file in /etc/mail/spamassassin and restart spamd.
For
more information about SpamAssassin,
see their web site.

E-mail contact@csma.biz
with any questions or comments. Alternately, if you are on the
blacklist and can't remove yourself, click the link below
to send us a note.
Note:
PLEASE read the bounce e-mail you receive carefully before requesting
assistance. After examining the message, you should be able to
locate the IP address of the mail server being rejected. This
is what you need to paste into the removal field at the top of
this page. By handling this yourself, your e-mail can be on
its way again within minutes rather than hours!!
(Telephone support is not available.)
